On Saturday 20th October 2007, for the third year running, Waikiki residents were treated to a night of excellent entertainment! The Waikiki Residents’ Association Inc. presented their annual Talent Quest at the Rockingham Baptist Church hall.
Harrington Waters Partnership once again supported the local youth by sponsoring this event which included offering attractive prize money for all categories of performers. Other sponsors contributed gift vouchers and provided administrative support to the association’s committee. The raffles during the few interval breaks were once again, very popular this year.
In the words of Dorothy Liley, Judge and local Patron of the Arts, “Talent Quest 2007 was a great success. The talent gets better each year. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and am looking forward to being involved next year”.
There were 33 acts in Talent Quest 2007, with at least 17 local schools represented. The organisers are grateful for the generous prize money provided by Harrington Waters and feel that this financial support was responsible for encouraging so many young people.
The many diverse performances continually engaged the audience and made the judging panel work hard on the evening. Popular songs were featured and there was even an unaccompanied performance from Marriage of Figaro. There was popular dancing, acrobatics, an AC/DC guitar medley, a clown, belly dancing, mime and a piano solo.
Local MLAs Brent Tremain (Christian Democratic Party), Dawn Jecks (Greens WA) and Phil Edman (Liberal Candidate for Brand and a Councillor with the City of Rockingham) attended this year’s Talent Quest and assisted with prize presentations.
The positive comments have started to flow in and include:
- “Just want to write and thank you for a wonderful evening and what great entertainment value. The local talent really was amazing. Please send our thanks and appreciation to all that was involved in this event and giving the local youth an event like this to showcase their talents. The night also seemed to run smoothly and was well organized. Thank you very much for a great evening and look forward to seeing it next year.”
- “Really enjoyed the Talent Quest, the talent was amazing. Many thanks for the great night’s entertainment.”
- “Again a very enjoyable night. We really liked the comments on each act as they finished. They were all such encouraging words for our young entertainers. Your prize money is very generous and wonderful that even if you don’t place you still win something. I also love the amount of raffle prizes you give away even if we haven't won one yet. (maybe next year!)
- It was wonderful to see a variety of acts this year. The young clown had us all on the edge of our seat for the entire act. I hope this has been helpful and look forward to a wonderful evening next year.”
- “I thought the talent was outstanding and it is wonderful to have this sort of contest where they can have a go. Let’s hope this contest is around for a long time to come.”
