Community Fair is a Major Success - 19th March 2006
Approximately 4,000 people took advantage of the glorious weather and thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the Waikiki Residents’ Association Inc.’s inaugural community fair, held around the Harrington Waters lake area on Sunday 19th March 2006. Harrington Waters is pleased to have sponsored the fair.
There were plenty of ongoing activities throughout the day to cater for all age groups. The Scribbly Faces face painting was a huge success with the children as were the pony rides while the parents tapped their feet to the live music of the Southern Cross Bush Band and enjoyed the talented and colourful dancing exhibitions from Mystique Sirens and Belly Stars, Scottish Country Dance, Western Cheer Leading Dance and of course the impressive display performed by the Capoeira Samba De Roda.
There was something for everyone from croquet to a wildlife display, raffles and an impressive exhibition from provided by the 10th Light Horse Regiment. Food and drink stalls were in abundance, so nourishment was not a problem. Local artists showcased their talents and work and Jugglers and clowns kept everyone entertained!
This fair was so successful that some stallholders have pre-booked spots for next year! In view of the positive comments from this year’s event, there will be no shortage of attendees as well. In keeping with the environmentally friendly and ecological philosophy of the Developers, it is pleasing to note that the estate was left in a clean and tidy state after all the stallholders had dismantled their displays.
Special thanks are extended to the committee members Kay and John Benson, who worked long and hard behind the scenes to co-ordinate this event and bring the fair together. Other noteworthy contributors were the Waikiki community, Harrington Waters’s resident, Bill F, who helped set up the administration tents and the Waikiki Primary School P&C Committee, which assisted in fundraising activities.
